The King’s Ransom: Lisa Marie Presley Quote

The King's Ransom

The King’s Ransom

I find Lisa Marie Presley’s quote interesting.  The quote is on display at the King’s Ransom Museum inside of Binion’s Casino on Fremont Street in Las Vegas.

It’s interesting because she was just nine years old when her dad passed away; therefore, her memories are of a nine year old child.  Lisa Marie never really knew her dad except through the people who knew him, his music, movies, and photos.  Her quote seems to be a compilation of the things told to her by the people who knew Elvis best.  Actually, it’s like that for a lot of us.

Lisa Marie Presley

Perhaps, this is why there is such a sadness in her eyes and expressed upon her face.  Her dad was one of the greatest entertainers to have ever lived, yet, she was robbed of ever getting to know him like a daughter should get to know her dad.  Who knows what music Lisa Marie and Elvis Presley could have made together.

Lisa Marie has had some success with her own music.

Presley…released her first album To Whom It May Concern on April 8, 2003. The album debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 charts and was certified gold in June 2003. Now What, Lisa Marie’s second album, was released on April 5, 2005, and debuted at No. 9 on the Billboard 200 charts. The album was certified gold in November 2005. In 2007, Lisa Marie recorded the single “In the Ghetto” as a posthumous duet with her father. The video released for the song reached No. 1 on iTunes and No. 16 on the Billboard singles chart…  (Lisa Marie Presley. (2013). The Biography Channel website. Like most children of music superstars she wants to distance herself from her father’s shadow and music.  Lisa Marie wants to be recognized for her songs and music genre, but at times has embraced her dad’s enormous shadow and recorded posthumous duets.  I think Lisa Marie should fully embrace her dad’s shadow because I believe inside of her is that magnificent voice of her dad.  I believe it’s there inside her ready to erupt with the same emotion and power, if she would only allow it to come out.

Sadly, I don’t think Lisa Marie ever will.  Maybe she’s afraid.  Maybe it is too much to bear.  Maybe the image is just too big for her to embrace, then again I don’t really know Lisa Marie and it’s really all just speculation of an Elvis fan.

Elvis Presley Quote

The image is one thing…the human being is another.  It’s hard to live up to an image.
