LAS VEGAS HOTEL. Day 2 consisted of the selection of the Top 20 competing in the semi-finals.
The day included the Heart of the King awards
The HEART OF THE KING AWARDS were established by the producers of the Las Vegas
Elvis Fest to honor a select few Elvis Tribute Artists that professionally and
tastefully represent the life and legacy of Elvis Presley. We especially honor
performers that demonstrate, on stage, off stage and in their daily lives, a
respectful tribute and genuinely put the Heart of the King into every
performance. The Concert portion of the event will give the award recipients a
chance to showcase their talent for all of us to enjoy.
The 2013 Awardees
The Heart of the King recipients include:
2012 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Ben Portsmouth
2010 Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Justin Shandor
The Heart of the King Horizon Award for best new Tribute Artist:
Heart of the King Lifetime Achievement Awards:
Johnny Harra (posthumously)
Johnny Spence (posthumously)
The Heart of the King Producers Award:
Johnny Stuart, Legends in Concert
Edward “Doc” Franklin (posthumously)
The awards allowed each recipient to sing several songs showing the reasons they are upon the stage where Elvis performed 837 consecutive shows. It was a jaw dropping performance by every recipient who has mastered providing the perfect illusion of Elvis with powerful voices. Sometimes it was eerie how much the ETAs looked and sounded like Elvis upon his stage. A few people had goosebumps dotting their skin. Others watched with joyful, misted eyes reflecting upon the past when they saw Elvis in concert. All were mesmerized.
In addition, the celebration included awarding producers who have made the tribute artist industry into the entertainment giant it is today.
Day 2 concluded with a final concert Elvis & Friends After Hours Concert featuring Irv Cass (Tom Jones), Dwight Icenhower (Elton John), and Ben Portsmouth (Elvis). It was an entertaining, amazing concert rocking the audience into the early morning hours.
The best part of the Elvis & Friends Concert is when Ben Portsmouth grabbed a chair, a guitar, and sat on the stage for a solo jam session. Of course, the audience joined in, but it was a personable set by a superbly talented ETA who made you believe Elvis was on the stage. It was worth the $50 ticket.
